ETA provide project management services to developers and to contractors. Our understanding of the technical, quality and budgetary requirements of developers coupled with 'hands on' knowledge of construction methods and costs enables us to develop accurate plans and management strategies.

ETA’s services range from total project management to ‘one-off’ consultancy assignments, for example managing tender or installation processes. ETA’s project management skills are employed on marine projects worldwide in many fields covering power, telecoms, oil and gas, and marine renewables sectors.

Over many years of operation, ETA has invested in the supporting systems, software and hardware essential to our role, including project management, records management, CAD and GIS.

We operate fully documented quality and HSE systems, certified to ISO 9001:2000, and can also comply with clients’ in-house quality systems and procedures.

Project Management Experience and Expertise:

Details of a range of ETA’s previous Project Management work are below. ETA’s key competencies in this area include but are not limited to:

Project Management Experience and Expertise:

The East West
Interconnector Project
The East West Interconnector Project (EWIP) is a 185km HVDC submarine cable link from Ireland to the UK. The cable was successfully installed with 100% burial in 3 campaigns, utilising a shallow draft barge with an injector for burial at landfalls, and chain cutter and water jetting ROV for the main sections of the cable. Horizontal Directional Drilling was also used on the UK side with direct buried ducts trenched into rock in Ireland.

Working for EPC contractors ABB, ETA provided Project Management and Engineering Support across the whole project providing: route planning based on the hi-res pre-lay survey; installation planning; specs for tenders; tender appraisal for 9 sub-contracts; managing day to day installation including QHSE; commercial disputes etc; face to face meetings with clients to resolve technical and commercial issues; and contract variations etc. ETA also supplied Client Representatives for the project.
Gjoa Platform:
Power Cable
The Gjoa cable project represented a major milestone in the Oil & Gas market; supplying the floating offshore Gjoa platform with power from the shore via a seabed installed AC cable close to 100km long, and suspended dynamic cable to link it to the platform. The power from shore eliminates much of the CO2 emissions by removing the requirement for gas turbines.

ETA were contracted by system designer and main installer ABB to assist with Project and Technical Management. ETA’s work included: QA of subcontractor engineering and procedures; developments of procedures for handling termination during load, lay and platform pull; and the development of a mid-water survival system (MWSS) utilising temporary cable buoyancy to avoid the need to cut cable in sea conditions exceeding 4m Hs.
Teesside Offshore
Wind Farm
Teesside Offshore Windfarm is a 62 MW windfarm constructed just east of the mouth of the River Tees. ETA were brought in by owners EDF Energy Renewables to act as Offshore Cable Package Managers for the project.

ETA provided onsite day to day Project Management services for all aspects of the offshore cable planning, procurement, installation and protection.

ETA provided extensive planning services including: route planning, layout planning, cable type specification, and cable supplier selection. ETA also provided the following services during the operations: cable delivery strategy, route clearing, horizontal directional drilling, cable installation, protection strategy, cable burial, scour protection, termination, and commissioning.
PEC/Level 3:
UK-France telecom cables
ETA managed the installation of two UK-France telecoms cables for Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) on behalf of CTC Marine Projects from project awarded through to completion. Despite significant challenges (including hard sea beds, demanding burial targets, and very tight deadlines), the installation of the PEC and Level 3 projects was carried out over a two and a half month period and was completed on time and within budget. Burial targets were also achieved throughout.

As well as the Project Management for the cables ETA also supplied the vessel lay spread including: twin cable tanks, cable pathway, stern chutes, jointing and testing container, and an integrated cable lay system enabling all system parameters to be monitored at various locations including the vessel bridge. During the installation ETA also provided many of the key staff including the Offshore Superintendent.
